MiniMicro is taking up too much CPU resource

Hi,

I am starting this thread because I really like MiniMicro; especially MiniBasic and its Web version. I think it has great potential to be a key component of platforms that teach programming.

However, i am puzzled by the fact that whenever I have MiniMicro running (both its web and standalone versions), the CPU fans starts spinning fast (first noticed this because of the noise it was making).

I did a bunch of tests and verified that, it is indeed MiniMicro that is the culprit and not any other software that i have installed. In particular, the CPU usage of MiniMicro is always hovering at the 50% mark even when i am not executing any commands on it. Interestingly the web version has the exact same behaviour.

It will be great if this issue could get some attention since it kind of becomes a difficult choice knowing that the software will hog the CPU and cause the fans to go off.

What platform are you running on?

I seem to recall that version 1.2 has an issue like this on Windows. But it's been fixed for version 1.2.1, which will come out soon. If you join our Discord, you can be notified when preview builds are available — there should be another final candidate this week.

(Note that Mini Micro will still consume a fair bit of CPU when a program is running; but when the machine is idle, just sitting at the prompt, then it should throttle down to very little.)

There is also a really awesome project to bring Mini Micro to the web more natively, it should have a performance improvement I believe 🙂
